Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), an herb commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine, is considered a 'novel food' in Australia under Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). It has a traditional use as a medicinal herb, but its approval as a food ingredient is regulated and we are therefore not able to sell it as a food product.
But, did you know though that Ashwagandha has other uses? It has had some positive feedback in a study looking at it as an ingredient in a topical application of a lotion, although further studies with different skin types and standard comparators are warranted to substantiate these claims of benefit.
